At its meeting last week the Library Board approved a change to the Library's operating hours. Last year we were able to add Sunday hours at Shute Park, and with this adjustment this fall we'll reach our goal of aligning the hours at all of our locations.
Beginning September 15, 2016, the hours for both libraries will be:
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: 10am-8pm
- Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: 10am-6pm
For those of you keeping track, we're adding four hours of service each week at Shute Park, on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. At Brookwood we'll have the same total hours: we're closing earlier on Friday nights, but we'll open earlier on Sundays.
We think this will be easier for everyone to remember as well as allow us to be open when people most want to visit!
The other change that the Board approved last week was to officially rename the Main Library the Brookwood Library. The "Main Library" designation has been confusing to some people since we opened on Brookwood Parkway in 2007--largely because the Shute Park Library was the Hillsboro Main Library for many years, and the Brookwood Library's location near Shute Road and on a park only adds to the jumble. So now we're the Brookwood Library and the Shute Park Library, plain and simple! It's also an easy naming system for any future libraries in Hillsboro (e.g. South Hillsboro Library or Amberglen Library).
The name change doesn't affect our services, but you'll start to see it on the signs and other printed materials right away, and you'll probably hear staff stumbling over the words Brookwood Library while we get used to it. You'll also see location name changes on the volunteer schedule and sign-in tablet once Summer Reading ends.
