Hillsboro Reads

Our second annual city-wide reading celebration, Hillsboro Reads, starts in less than two weeks. This year's book is Spare Parts by Joshua Davis, the true story of four Mexican American teens from a poor neighborhood who defy the odds and win a national robotics competition. We have a full schedule of discussion groups, movies, robotics demonstrations, and much more from September 18 - October 15, including a talk by Lorenzo Santillan, one of the men featured in the book. New hours
Don't forget: the Library will have new hours starting the week of September 12. Both locations will be open the same hours: Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 10am-8pm, and Friday/Saturday/Sunday 10am-6pm. We're excited to add four hours each week at Shute Park, and are looking forward to having synchronized hours at both libraries.


Book sale
The fall book sale is upon us! This fall's sale will be October 28 - November 6, with setup starting October 8. Now is a great time to clean off your bookshelves and donate your used books, movies, and music, to Friends of the Library. And if you or someone you know would like to volunteer for sale setup, registration is live at bit.ly/SaleVolunteersFall16, or email me for more details.


Special events this fall for kids and families
If you like working with children and enjoy some variety in your volunteering routine, please consider helping with some of the many, many special events that we have planned for this fall. There's a new monthly Hebrew storytime, Harry Potter activities to celebrate the new movie coming out, an Anne of Green Gables picnic, and much more. HillsDOer Day
The second annual HillsDOer Day is Saturday, October 1. It's a city-wide volunteer day, with great projects going on all over town. Tour de Arts
On Sunday, September 18, the Washington County Bicycle Transportation Alliance is hosting a family-friendly bike ride through Hillsboro called the Tour de Arts. The ride begins and ends in downtown Hillsboro, and they're in need of volunteers from 9am-12:30pm to help with registration and bike parking, as well as serve as Course Marshalls along the route.
