Introducing Family Volunteer Night!

This spring we're trying something new and exciting at the Shute Park Branch: a monthly Family Volunteer Night. We've heard from lots of parents that it's hard to find ways to volunteer with younger children, so this project is especially designed for families with kids in Kindergarten through sixth grade, although families with middle and high-school students are welcome to attend, too.

We'll have a kid-friendly task to do, some snacks for motivation, and a short time-frame (just an hour of project time) to suit the kiddos' attention span. We hope that patrons of all ages will have a chance to help their community and see that volunteering can be fun!

Our first Family Volunteer Night will be on Thursday, April 7, at 6pm, at the Shute Park Branch Library. That's right after the Library closes, so we can spread out, make some noise, and have the place all to ourselves. We'll be done by 7:30pm to get everyone home and to bed on time.

Families of all sorts are welcome--parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, or other caring adults. All we ask is that at least one adult attend for every three children, and that the kids be in Kindergarten or older.

If this month doesn't work for you, we'll be doing the same thing on May 5 and June 9; sign-ups for those will go up as soon as the April event is over.
