Demolition begins February 25

The books and shelving are all out of the Young Adult area at Main, so now the demolition can begin!

On Monday, February 25, demolition will start by the Library entry. The walls around the YA room will be removed, along with the wood arch that separates the lobby from the rest of the Library. The demolition will make room for a larger vestibule and entryway, and create a space for the new books and bestsellers.

By the second week of March, we should have the dates set for moving shelves and books upstairs, and for starting construction at the Shute Park Branch. I'll let you know as soon as that's confirmed. The carpet is the lynchpin in all this: if the carpet is delivered on time and with everything in order we'll be full speed ahead. But if the carpet is delayed, then that will push back the shelving installation and the moving.

If you'd like to take a look at how things are progressing upstairs, don't forget about the tours: every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 3:30pm, now through March 22. There are also three Saturday tours: February 23, March 9, and March 23 at 10am. The tours are led by Library Director Mike Smith or Assistant Director Linda Lybecker and depart from the lobby, by the elevator. (Don't be late--I was and got left behind!)
