Library run-down: mid-fall edition

Book Sale: It's here! The semi-annual book sale starts tomorrow, November 1! Come and enjoy our biggest, best-organized sale yet. The sale is open during regular Library hours, through November 10.

Veterans Day: The Library will be closed all day on Monday, November 11, for Veterans Day. If you can't bear to miss a Monday at the Library, we'll be tearing down the book sale all afternoon; let Molly know if you want to help out.

Shute Park Branch Update: Hillary Ostlund, who you may know from our Reader Services division, has been hired as the Branch Manager for Shute Park. We're still planning on a March reopening and will keep you posted as we work out the details. Be sure to congratulate Hillary if you see her!

Library Strategic Plan: Last month, the Library started the process of developing a new strategic plan for the next three years. A planning committee made up of community representatives kicked things off by identifying several focus areas, which have since received input and feedback from staff and the Library Board. We'll have a couple more rounds to define values and specific objectives before the plan is finalized later this winter. I'll post more information after the next planning committee meeting. If you have questions or are curious about the details, let me know!

Volunteer Greeters: We have four excellent volunteer greeters covering morning hours in the Library entry three days a week (and another day and greeter to follow soon)! Greeters answer patrons' questions, point people in the right direction, receive donations and payments for Friends of the Library, and are the first friendly face that people see when they enter the building. If you're interested in being a greeter, we have several weekday openings and would be happy to talk with you more about it.

Teen Library Council: In September we started recruiting 8th-12th graders for a rebooted Teen Library Council. We've gotten a slow but enthusiastic trickle of applications, so we're going to continue to recruit for a few more months and make a bigger push to get started in the spring. If you or someone you know is curious about participating, there's still plenty of time to apply.

Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Eve: The Library will be closed all day on Thursday the 28th for Thanksgiving. We'll also be closing early--at 6pm--on the 27th.
