In the next 90 days, everything is changing! We’re opening the second floor at Main, closing Shute Park for remodeling, starting interim services in the Shute Park neighborhood, and installing an Automated Materials Handling system at Main.
And now we have a timeline for it all. Exact dates are of course subject to change, but we have a good idea of how we expect this to happen.
Now through April 15:
· Complete the carpet installation on the second floor at Main
· Install new entrance doors and glass in the vestibule
· Install new pull-across metal gate in the entry
April 15(ish): Receive the occupancy permit for the second floor. This means that staff can begin to safely work upstairs.
April 15-27: Shift staff offices and cubes (Administration moves upstairs, Technical Services expands into first floor Admin area, and Reader Services staff shift around). Workers will install new shelving upstairs, and we’ll receive the new furniture for the second floor.
April 29-May 10: The big internal move at Main. Books and shelves will be moved to their new, permanent homes. Professional movers will work Monday-Friday, 6am-3pm, and the Library will be open 3-8pm. Weekend hours will not change. The Friends book sale will take place during this time and the sale will start as usual at 10am on weekdays, but patrons will not have access to other parts of the Library until 3pm.
May 1: The Welcome Desk goes away. The space is needed for the new Automated Materials Handling system that will be installed in Circulation in June. Phones will be answered in Administration (upstairs), and a combination of staff and volunteers will serve as greeters by the entrance. If you’re interested in being a greeter, see Molly!
May 11: Last day of service at Shute Park until 2014.
May 12-25: Movers move the books, furniture, computers, etc. from Shute Park to Main. Library staff and volunteers will integrate the Shute Park collection into the materials at Main. We’re aiming for a “soft opening” of the second floor on or about May 17.
May 24: Groundbreaking for the Shute Park remodeling.
June 2: Grand Opening Celebration for the second floor at Main.
June 3:
· Temporary computer lab begins service at the Hillsboro Police Station on 10th and Washington, downtown. Hours will be Monday-Friday, 11am-6pm and Saturdays 10am-6pm.
· Bookmobile service starts in the Shute Park neighborhood (exact location to be determined). Service will be Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-4pm.
· Automated Materials Handling (AMH) installation begins at Main. The AMH system will automate many of our check-in and sorting tasks, allowing us to keep up with ever-growing circulation. To see how AMH works, check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcpX3enGAZ8
July 1: Permanent extended hours begin at Main. We’ll be open until 9pm on weeknights. Weekend hours will not change.
Then we take a deep breath—or as deep as we can, since we’ll be in the middle of Summer Reading!
