Upcoming in April at the Library

Spring is well underway! The ducklings are out around the ponds at Main and the kids are out in force at Shute Park. Here's what to take note of for April:

Hours change

Effective March 29, the Shute Park Branch will be open 12-6pm on Sundays. Yay! Starting the next day--Monday, March 30--the Main Library will close at 8pm on weeknights (rather than 9pm). Plan your holds pickups accordingly!

Book sale

The Friends' Spring Book Sale will be April 24-May 3, at the Main Library. As usual, there are several ways to get involved:

• Shop! The sale will be open during regular Library hours. Shelves are restocked daily, so come early and come often.
• Donate. If you're doing spring cleaning on your bookshelves and music/movie collections, donate those things that you're just not using. 
• Volunteer. It takes lots of people to make a book sale happen. Join us! Sign up for weekend setup/teardown shifts here: http://bit.ly/1ERfUj1 or email me to set up a midweek shift. And help us spread the word. Sale volunteers can shop as they sort! 

 

Book Bowl

Keep those Book Bowl titles coming! Email your finished books (and audiobooks and ebooks) to hillsbororeads@hillsboro-oregon.gov. The Library is blowing the competition out of the water and we've got a healthy side competition between Library staff and volunteers. Keep on reading!

Summer Reading approaches!

Summer Reading for kids and adults will start on June 1. We'll be looking for lots of volunteers to be involved with events and registering readers at both locations. Scheduling is flexible and training will start after Memorial Day. Current volunteers can see me for full details (and I'll post them here by May 1). New volunteers should apply as soon as possible to get all the screening and training squared away before June. The application is on the website, and new volunteers can return it to any service desk at either library.

National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week is April 12-18, 2015... Which is also National Library Week! We'll be recognizing volunteers' contributions throughout Hillsboro at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 21, at 7pm at the Civic Center. You're invited to attend, or you can tune in from home on Tualatin Valley Community Television.
