Stand Together Week & Summer Reading Kickoff at Shute Park

For the third year running the Library is participating in the Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns Stand Together Week, a week-long volunteer event that mobilizes soccer fans (and everyone else!) to make a difference in their community.

We moved bookshelves with Jose Valencia in 2012 and cleaned picture books with Timber Joey last year.


This year we're doing something all-new: celebrating the start of the Summer Reading Program at the Shute Park Branch with a Kick-Off Party in the park on Thursday, June 19. The Shute Park staff has a bunch of activities planned, from storytimes to science experiments, with crafts and games, too! We'll be working with about 20 special event volunteers organized by Hands On Greater Portland, Timbers staff, and (details TBD) a Timbers or Thorns player or representative.

We'll be getting going just as Outpost (the free summer lunch and activity program for kids) ends for the day, so we're going to have a big crowd and get a whole bunch of kids excited about using the Library this summer.
