Library visitors in staff areas

Because the library will be expanding soon and we expect lots of new faces in and out with planning and construction, it's time to review and explain rules pertaining to visitors. Volunteers have similar access as staff to staff-only areas, so please review these guidelines!

Anyone other than library staff, library volunteers, or city staff is considered a visitor. This includes patrons, vendors, family and friends of staff, etc. Visitors requesting a staff member should wait in the lobby; the receptionist will phone the requested staff member to meet and escort the visitor through the staff areas. No visitor should be admitted to staff areas without the permission of staff.

Except for staff, volunteers, and city staff with ID, no one should be admitted via the staff entrance, and should be directed to the lobby entrance.

As a volunteer, keep two things in mind:
  1. Please don't be offended if you're using the staff entrance and someone inquires about your business. We have many part-time staff, as well as WCCLS staff (upstairs), who may not be familiar with you. Just identify yourself as a volunteer!
  2. If you are entering/exiting the staff areas during your volunteer shift, please don't hold the door for anyone other than staff or other volunteers. If anyone else wants to be admitted, please direct them to the receptionist at the Welcome Desk.

Thank you! And as always, if you have questions, please let Molly know.
